The Sanitary Standard for Drinking Water (GB5749-2006), which began to be implemented on July 1, 2007, was duly revised by relevant departments, and the Sanitary Standard for Drinking Water (GB5749-2022) (hereinafter referred to as the "new standard") was formally implemented on April 1, 2023.
The new standard phase mainly has the following adjustments:
First, the number of indicators has been updated
The number of water quality indicators in the new standard has been adjusted from 106 in the 2006 edition to 97, including 43 conventional indicators and 54 extended indicators.
According to the current situation of water quality and water production technology in China and its effects on human health, four indexes including perchlorate, acetochlor, 2-methylisoborphenol and geosin were added, and 13 indexes including DDT and sulfide were deleted. The deleted indexes were mainly those that had been banned for production and use for many years and had not been detected in recent years.
Two, the index classification has been adjusted
The new standard adjusts the 2006 version of "conventional and unconventional indicators" to "conventional and extended indicators."
The conventional index reflects the basic status of drinking water quality, while the extended index reflects the regional characteristics of drinking water quality and the status of drinking water quality in a certain period of time or under special circumstances.
At the same time, the new standard will be higher detection rate of chlorodibromomethane and other 6 disinfection by-product indicators and ammonia (N) has a greater impact on the addition of disinfectants from unconventional indicators to conventional indicators.
3. Index limits have been revised
According to the significance of water quality index monitoring and the latest research results in population health effects or toxicology, combined with the actual situation of China, the new standard adjusts the limit values of 8 indexes, including 7 indexes of vinyl chloride, dimethoate, etc., stricter limit values, 1 index of boron has been relaxed.
At the same time, the new standard deletes some of the water quality indicators and limits of small centralized water supply and distributed water supply, narrowing the gap between urban and rural drinking water quality standards.
The corresponding GB/T 5750-2023 Standard Test Methods for Drinking Water Standards was approved and issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration) on March 17, 2023. It will come into effect on October 1, 2023.
The series of standards include:
GBT 5750.1-2023 Standard test methods for drinking water - Part 1: General rules
GBT 5750.2-2023 Standard test methods for drinking water - Part 2: Collection and preservation of water samples
